Andy Murray retiring
|
Either next week when he gets knocked out in the first round of the Australian Open or at this year’s Wimbledon.
One of Britain’s greatest ever sportsmen.
Turned himself into a winner in an era of some of the greatest players in tennis history.

I remember Murray's first televised Wimbledon match, against Nalbandian in 2005. He would have won it except he wasn't strong enough for a 5-setter. His backhand looked as secure as any I had seen. He then spent 6 years or so building his game and his physique to eliminate weaknesses. He may have had the advantage of parents able and willing to fund his early training, but after that it was all hard graft on his part.

Difficult to compare. Murray's won 3 grand slams playing in an era with Federer, Djokovic and Nadal. People talk about the likes of Borg and Rod Lager but they were playing in a much slower paced game with less power.
Sampras was a Supreme player at his best.

he always closes his eyes and looks up to heaven, as if to say "that was for you guys".
......
Have a fucking word.
I'd say it's more down to the fact he was still being breast fed by his old dear in his 20s Despite that, and his soppy tears, I've nothing buy admiration for what he achieved, especially given the competition.

Put it this way he will go down in history as the greatest British tennis player ever and if anyone say's Fred Perry they deserve to be fucked by a horse.
All this bollocks about him being a dour Scotsman is jealousy I fucking wish West ham had a few dour but brilliant hard working footballers that would kill themselves to get a ball like Murray does. From a child hiding away from an evil nonce gunmen to one of the greatest tennis players the world will ever see I can see a film about his life in the offing one day, he fucking rocked this Nation those who think tennis is not tough enough can look at what Murray did to his body .
Seriously though Fuck all the haters.

Many people forget that he was also a survivor of the Dunblane massacre when he was a little kid. That must have been a pretty traumatising experience for anyone to recover from.
If you look, after a big victory he always closes his eyes and looks up to heaven, as if to say "that was for you guys".
I admire the man, but then I'm not an envious, bitter cunt like a few on here.

Can't knock him he did well to compete with Djorkovic/Federer/Nadal - any other era he would have cleaned up a lot more titles.
Plus never thought I'd see the day a British player won Wimbledon - the last one Fred Perry won before him was 36 years before I was born.
So good on him for doing that because it had long gone past the point of an embarrassment
